Sadly the society has lost 2 of its Honorary Life Members over the last couple of weeks with the deaths of Dick West and Jim Colton.
The Steve Allon Dinner raised £3400 for Steve's dependents
The guest for the Annual Diner is to be Neale Barry and his wife. Neale is a previous Premier League and FIFA Referee who now works for the FA.
The society are looking at holding a fund raising event in memory of one of our Bolton referees, Steve Allon who sadly died a short while ago. The proposed date is to be confirmed but the 24th March 2007 is a likely date, the event to be held at the Reebok.
Darren Handley and Iain Siddall have both got interviews for the Football League Line.

Congratulations to Lee Mason on his first Premier League appointment.
Ryan Johnson continues on his travels, once again he was invited to attend the Dallas Cup in Texas at Easter and now he is off to Holland at the end of May to officiate in an international youth tournament in Groenlo in Holland .
Chris announced at the February meeting that he had now completed his chemo treatment and had just been declared clear - his news was greeted with great enthusiasm by the meeting and Chris is now looking forward to returning to his refereeing as soon as possible.
Lancashire Referees Association Long Service Awards are to be presented at the LRA Conference on 26th June to the following members.

30 yr awards to Sam Brown, Clive Knott, Stuart Platt, Ray Ennion, Albert Handley and Eddie Pearson.

Lee Mason has been appointed as referee in the Nordic Cup to be held in Helsinki August 1st - 9th. Congratulations and good luck to Lee.
Clive Knott has been awarded honorary life membership of the society - congratulations to Clive.
Dick West is to receive a 50 year service award from the Football Association - congratulations to Dick.
Dave Unsorth & Ray Ennion have been awarded the Referee Association Long and Meritorious Service Award for the work they have done over a minimum 20year period. The society congratulates them both on this prestigious award.
Congratulations to Lee & Debbie Mason who have recently added a daughter to their family, Grace was born on Friday 5th March 2004 (8lbs for those who need to know these details !).
Glen Turner, our guest speaker for March, has been selected as Assistant referee on Euro 2004.
Ryan Johnson has been invited to officiate at the Dallas Cup (4th - 12th April 2004.) in Texas U.S.A. Hopefully he will provide us with a few pictures and a report of his trip - good luck to Ryan.

It was announced at the August meeting that sadly Roy Thomasson had passed away. Roy who was awarded the Ken Dagnall Senior Progress Trophy for the season 2001/2002 sadly lost his fight against cancer. The thoughts of all the members of the society are with his family. A minutes silence was held at the August meeting.

It was announced at the March meeting that sadly Arthur Jones had recently passed away. Arthur was a great friend of Bolton Society as he was to all referees. Our thoughts are with his family.
The exec have announced a new award up for grabs. The new award will be called 'The Memorial Trophy' and will be awarded if any referee has received a prestigious appointment during the season.
The latest batch of newly qualified referees have finished their initial stage of mentoring and are progressing well. 3 newly qualified refs were presented with their new records of achievement by Ian Blanchard (FA Regional Manager) at March's society meeting.

The training venue has changed, now situated at the Bolton Hospital Saturday Office in Silverwell St in Bolton. This is adjacent to the old sports centre in Silverwell St.
Keith Whitaker has been invited by the F.A. to join the National List of Contributory League Assesors.
Sadly our Society Chaplain Norman Riley has lost his fight for life. He died yesterday. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family. A private funeral service will be held for family. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
After 4 years as Chairman - Dave Unsworth hands the crown over to our new Chairman - Roy White.

Golf Day
After last years success at Shrigley Hall - the venue is to be the same - date is Saturday 22nd June - names to Paul Brabin as soon as possible. This year it will be a full day - light breakfast on arrival - 9 holes - soup and sandwiches for lunch - 18 holes followed by evening meal.

Hospital Cup
16 teams have registered for this years Hospital Cup the final of which is to be held at The Reebok on May 14th. The draw will take place on Monday 11th March. Hopefully there will be an all stars game on the same evening - should be a good evening.
Once again Bolton Referees Society are providing officials for the games, Darren Handley is the appointments officer, please contact him with your availability, younger members of the society are encouraged to act as assistant referees.
Society Subscription
Society subscriptions will be due from 1st July this coming year, this is to ensure that members are covered by insurance when refereeing during the summer.

The next social event is confirmed as dog racing at Belle Vue on Saturday 2nd March 2002.

Combination Folds
Sadly Bolton Combination has folded due to a lack of teams this year. Hope springs eternal though and plans are afoot to reform next season.
Keith has recently been in communication with our member in the USA - namely Paul Howard, he is well and would like to pass on his best wishes to all members of the society, there is a possibility that he will be in Bolton in September.

The proposal by The R A to include the cost of the monthly magazine in the subscription has been defeated by over 3000 votes.
Lee presented David McStay with a new award at the Bolton Boys Federation Presentation Night, held at Atlantis in Bolton on Monday. This is the first year that this award has been made and is based on marks given by Managers throughout the season. Lee presented all the officials who had officiated in the B.B.F Jubilee Cup Finals with their trophies.

After the success of last year's closed season training nights, we are doing them again this year, commencing 5th June, meet in the car park at Leverhulme Athletics Stadium. Duration of approximately 1 hour, a short run, lots of stretching, sprints and general exercises - and its free !!
Hospital Cup bids to attain previous importance.
After several years in decline, renewed efforts are in place to revive the once thriving local charity competition known as 'The Hospital Cup'. The final for this prestigious trophy used to be hosted by Bolton Wanderers Football Club at Burnden Park. Once again B.W.F.C. have taken an interest in this trophy and have agreed to allow the final to take place at The Reebok Stadium on Monday 21st May.
Eddie Pearson retires from Instruction Team.
After 28 years as an instructor, Eddie has finally thrown in the chalk and board rubber to lead a life of leisure on a Friday night. (Next course begins in September !)
Paul Balkham resigns as secretary.
After over a decade of service to the society as Secretary, Paul has finally decided to put away his typewriter.
Society donates 2 mirrors for the referee's dressing rooms at The Reebok Stadium.
With monies from the Centenary fund, Bolton Referees Society are to donate 2 mirrors for the referee's rooms at the Reebok Stadium. These are to replace the old mirrors that were in the changing rooms in Burnden Park. The 2 mirrors have been engraved with the society badge together with the years signifying our centenary 1897 - 1997. The mirrors were presented to B.W.F.C. on Thursday 29th March 2001.
The annual dinner is to be held at Dean Golf Club on Friday 18th May.
The dinner this year is to be held at Dean Golf Club in Bolton, capacity is 80 people and of course all are welcome with family and friends. Dress is formal and together with the usual presentation of awards our guest speaker will be Dave Allison, a Football League Referee Coach from Lancaster. Trip to the horses - Haydock Park Races - Saturday 26th May.
After our successful visit to the dogs we have decided to go for something larger. A day's racing at Haydock Park. A coach has been arranged which will collect everyone from the centre of Bolton at approximately 11.30am, returning to the same place at approximately 6.30pm. Golf day venue decided - Shrigley Hall - 16th June.
After last year's exceedingly enjoyable golfing day in sunny Heysham, we have decided to hold another event this year slightly closer to home. Shrigley Hall Golf and Country Club is about 5 miles north of Macclesfield. This event is open to 12 people (first come first served) and will consist of lunch, 18 holes and a 3 course evening meal, jackets and ties please for the evening meal.
